March Seed Update

Seeding is fast approaching and now is the time to consider your pasture seed requirements for season 2023. Small delays in production are being seen based on the back of last years late spring with high rainfall in many seed growing areas. Although harvest has been delayed there are no real major shortages due to last years seasonal conditions. Cleaning sheds are running behind due to a delayed harvest presenting some challenges in the dispatch of common pasture varieties such as Balansa, Persian and Sub Clover. Although challenges are present we have good relationships with several seed companies and in a general sense are able to source any seed required, though it may take a little extra time, pre planning your requirements is recommended ASAP.

We have good stocks of annual ryegrass on hand along with some annual and perennial mixes ready to go.

The branch has also just invested in a seed mixer. This seed mixer will allow us to offer greater flexibility and customisation in the pasture seed mixes we are able to offer to you as a client. This will also provide improved ease of supply of specific seed blends as we will no longer have to wait for seed sheds to blend for us, hence reducing lead time for seed blends.

For several years we have seen minimal price rises in the seed category, however generally we are seeing moderate price rises flow through to end users, Seed production costs have risen and suppliers are no longer able to absorb these production costs.

Please touch base with Thomas Edwards ASAP to discuss your seed requirements for 2023.
